Duleepa reported:
I am in the process of discussing with some of Udaya's contacts who are coming to the conference in Melbourne and will be coming to visit NZ to deliver technical seminars. No confirmations yet though. Also I am hoping Nirmal is organising the DL seminar on Monday? If needed IES/IAS can be part of this too.

Duleepa reported:
Hi Patrick
Here is a brief description about the seminar we had last month.
----An IEEE technical seminar given by Dr. Ross M Green on Technology Lifecycle: The Long Road to an "Overnight Success" at the University of Auckland, Auckland, New Zealand. The event was organised by the joint IES and IAS chapters (IEEE New Zealand North Section) and was sponsored by the IEEE New Zealand North Section. The event which was held on Friday the 26th of October 2012, was attended by about 40 guests.

Duleepa reported the DL seminar held early this year:
On the invitation of the joint Industrial Electronics and Industrial Applications Chapter of IEEE New Zealand North Section, Prof. Okyay Kaynak, an IEEE Fellow and UNESCO Chair on Mechatronics from the Bogazici University, Turkey, visited New Zealand on an IEEE Distinguished Lecturer tour. An intriguing lecture entitled ¿Mechatronics in the 21st Century¿ was delivered by Prof. Kaynak on Wednesday the 8th of February 2012 at the department of Electrical and Computer Engineering, University of Auckland. The presentation was well received by more than 30 enthusiastic IEEE members, which included industry professional, university teaching staff and research students. During the seminar, he explained how Mechatronics has evolved over the last three decades and discussed the challenges that the engineers of the 21st century face. He concluded his presentation showing a few examples of the state-of-art reached in Mechatronics in the form of intelligent systems.

Note:
At least one more event is needed to keep IAS/IES active. Patrick proposed that Duleepa give an ECE research seminar jointly run by ECE and IEEE. Duleepa is also working on other options.

Udaya Reports:
1. Prof. Franquelo sent apologies for not being able to visit us under the DL program as Doctors have advised him not to travel, given his acute back injuries
2. Prof. Jain emailed a couple of weeks ago, informing that he will send the confirmation of his visit to NZ in early October.
3. I will organize, Prof. Jain's visit in October/November
4. Duleepa is happy to take over the IAS/IE Chair role from me as I will be away on leave from end of November.

Udaya Reports:
Please note my apologies.
I have planned for 2 DL visits (the extra cost can be covered through my research). The DLs are Prof. Franquelo (the IES president) and Prof. Praveen Jain, and they both agreed to visit NZ in Oct/Nov.
Unfortunately, Prof. Franquelo recently informed me that he hurt his back, and was advised not to travel (long flights). As he is coming from Spain, he is very unlikely to visit us at this stage.

Udaya Reports:
Please note my apologies.
I have contacted 3 DLs from IES and IA, and am awaiting for their availability to visit us this year.

Further note:
Please note that Prof. Leopoldo García Franquelo
(expert in energy and converters, and an IES DL ) is keen to visit us
in the 2nd week of November, and I am in the process of organizing his visit.

Udaya Reports:Please note my apologies as I am unable to attend both the meeting and dinner!  Below is my report.
I attended the IEEE IAS R10 chapter chair meeting/workshop, which was held on 22-23 Nov. in Penang, Malaysia.  Each chapter chair spoke with regard to their activities, and I raised the difficulty that we face in attracting good DLs to visit NZ due to financial constraints and being far away from rest of the world.
Peter Magyar (IAS Chair CDM) and Fanny also spoke in relation to membership development, more industry participation, common issues and Vtools.  All presentations of the meeting and the workshop are available at the following link.http://ewh.ieee.org/soc/ias/cms/content/section/10/32/

Udaya Reports:I mentioned at the committee meeting and got the approval to attend the above IAS Chapter Chair (R10) meeting and workshop in Malaysia from 21-22 November this year. Our section has to pay US$ 250 to cover part of the cost, and I mentioned this to you/committee and got the approval
earlier. Please find attached the email that was sent to me by the R10 chair with the program.
The chair meeting will be followed by a workshop on the second day. Other than this, there is nothing to report. I have invited a DL, who is attending this workshop, to visit NZ but it is still under consideration.

Udaya Reports: The IAS Region 10 meeting is scheduled (tentatively) to be held in
Penang, Malaysia on 22nd November. The meeting is followed by a
workshop/tutorial on the 23rd. However, both events are still be
confirmed, and I intend to attend if the meeting goes
ahead. Please note that I have already got the approval from our
Chapter (communicated to the NZN Executive).
The workshop after the meeting will be conducted by Dr Juan Sanchez,
FIEEE, from Spain, who is a DL on IAS DL program. He is an expert on
energy, and I have invited him to NZ under ISA DL program prior to the
meeting in Malaysia since he can cover most of his travel expenses from
the trip to Malaysia. IAS has approved DLs travel costs, but I am yet
to receive a confirmation from Dr Juan Sanchez.
