Title : Power System Protection Schemes in Modern Power Systems with Distributed Generation
    Speaker: Melha B. Selak
Meliha B. Selak is a Specialist Engineer in Electrical Power Systems with BC Hydro. She has an Electrical Engineering degree from the University of Sarajevo and has over 30 years of experience in various aspects of power systems engineering including utility protection, research & development, project management and consulting on international projects. Prior to joining BC Hydro in 2000, she worked as a research engineer in the Power System Group at the University of British Columbia on Real-Time Power System Simulator in connection with EMTP. Her technical activities include power system protection and control applications, power system analysis, evaluations and interconnection studies for the various plants connecting to the power system, as well as development of the protection guidelines. She is a registered professional engineer in the Province of British Columbia and she is a senior member of IEEE. Meliha is a member of the IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) Governing Board and she is currently serving as the Vice President for Chapters. Also, she is a corresponding member of the IEEE Power System Relay Committee (PSRC). She has written numerous technical reports and papers on the power system subjects and she is also a paper reviewer. Meliha is a distinguished lecturer of IEEE PES.
  • Administration:
  • IEEE PES North Section has formed a committee structurefor 2012 with Chair, Vice-Chair, Secretary and PES StudentBranch Chair positions. The PES Student Branch has been approved. It will form part of affinity group of AU SB but mostly of Postgraduate PES members.
    2.      Progress on Conferences technically POWERCON2012 sponsored or sponsored by PES.
  •
POWERCON 2012 (*fully sponsored by PES) Professional Conference Organizer is Event Smart. The dates are October 30- Nov 2 2012. The theme of the conference is "Towards Smarter Resilient and Economic Electricity System". The conference will feature plenary sessions, tutorials, paper presentations, poster session, trade exhibits, companion program, site visit and a Student/Graduate of Last Decade (GOLD)/Women In Engineering (WIE) program. The local organizing committee involves all the 3 PES chapters from NZ (North, Central and SOuth) along with industry bodies like EEA and CIGRE-NZ. 4 Universities will be involved (Auckland University, AUT, Canterbury University and Victoria).
  • About 220 International registration completed. Likely to have some more. The Local Student/WIE/GOLD program has been finalized. It is being publicized and we have planned for 70 people for that event. [Support from IEEE NZN Section to be explored
