(Peter Over has) spent some time with Jeremy this month reviewing the progress of the web page
development and exploring options for the next stage. I apologise for the fact that
I have not been able to devote as much time to this project as I would have wished,
but work project priorities intervened. I intend to spend some meaningful time on
the project over the next few weeks, now that the work projects have been completed.
Here are the key points of the web page progress:

  • The web page is close to its final form in appearance and function.
  • We have started setting up user profiles for the Administrator, Section Officers and Group Chairs.
  • The user profiles will enable user to maintain the section(s) of the web page that relate to their group and/or responsibilities.
  • The requirement for a separate Webmaster may disappear if we can make users responsible for
their own section of the web page. The Section Secretary could have responsibility to keep a
watching brief on the function of the web page, as a low priority task.
  • The public and administration functions will be combined into a single web page, with user login required to access the administration functions.
  • Integration of a redeveloped Consultant Database is being explored, with the total development cost remaining within budget.
  • A further progress payment has been made, as significant work has been completed.

The web page has been approved on 14 May for deployment to a local hosting service named Openhost, which will cost the Section $7 per month. This allows us 500 MB disk space and 2GB traffic. After we have evaluated the deployed web page and approved it for launch, we will have to consider the appointment of a webmaster to handle content maintenance and future enhancements.
Until that appointment, we need to consider the appointment of an acting Webmaster.

Shaun has confirmed the student branch migration. We as a section decided during our last meeting to migrate to perhaps IEEE Entity webpages or other resources within IEEE HQ.
